Outsourcing Campus ICT Services: Why, What, When and How?
Presenter(s): Morell Boone, Eastern Michigan University; Alan McCord, University of Michigan
Outsourcing is increasingly used as one of many tools to help improve the quantity and quality of Information Communication Technology (ICT) services on our campuses. Many campus administrators lack practical experience in evaluating the potential for outsourcing, planning to incorporate outsourcing into the campus ICT enterprise, preparing requests for proposals, evaluating vendor bids, negotiating contracts, and managing outsourcing relationships. This workshop is designed for campus administrators involved with planning for future ICT services, for those wishing to improve their skills in evaluating outsourcing opportunities, or for those interested in improving their skill at managing existing relationships. Role-playing exercises will provide participants with the opportunity to gain practical experience in both strategic and tactical planning elements required to consider outsourcing mission-critical services, and how to manage such processes and relationships. Participants will be provided with a comprehensive notebook containing workshop slides, presentation materials, and references. |
