Integrated Capital Planning: A Case Study from Stanford University

Presenter(s): Margaret Dyer Chamberlain, Stanford University; Sandra Louie, Stanford University; Craig K. Tanaka, Stanford University
Convener: William Massey, Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott

Stanford University is dedicated to developing a comprehensive and integrated three-year capital plan which is updated annually by drawing together and evaluating facilities needs, academic priorities, budget realities, and overall campus planning parameters. Staff from the Office of Capital Planning and Management share some of the lessons learned from the planning process, as well as thoughts about improvements. In an era of intense construction activity, coupled with challenging financial realities and ever-evolving academic discoveries, this type of planning will be more and more relevant to institutions of higher education.

This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-seventh annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–37, in San Diego, CA (USA), in July of 2002.

Audiocassettes of this and other SCUP–37 sessions are available for purchase here.

Due to our concern for the privacy of members of the face-to-face audiences at SCUP–37, our digital archives of SCUP–37 presentations end at the beginning of the question and answer portion of each session. Whenever we can, we not only provide streaming audio but the slide show or visual presentation used by the presenters, as well.
