The City Heights Educational Pilot‹Winning Formulas from the Learning Laboratory

Presenter(s): W. Anthony Fulton, San Diego State University; Lionel R. Meno, San Diego State University; Ian Pumpian, San Diego State University
Convener: Christa M. Mahar, Graham Gund Architects

Four years ago San Diego State University embarked on a partnership with a blighted inner city community to establish the City Heights Educational Pilot, a multifaceted program designed to address core educational development deficiencies. The results of this ³learning laboratory² program are now manifest. In the community there are: new facilities, more teachers, higher SAT test scores, original scholarship, expansive grants, vast improvements in communications, economic development, and health services. The principal partners of this program will share the winning formulas developed for this exemplary inner city experiment.

This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-seventh annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–37, in San Diego, CA (USA), in July of 2002.

Audiocassettes of this and other SCUP–37 sessions are available for purchase here.

Due to our concern for the privacy of members of the face-to-face audiences at SCUP–37, our digital archives of SCUP–37 presentations end at the beginning of the question and answer portion of each session. Whenever we can, we not only provide streaming audio but the slide show or visual presentation used by the presenters, as well.
